SPLAT!

CT Sideways, Chief News Editor

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Greetings. Today's newsletter has some important information about one of the most distinctive detatchments of the 501st Legion. With the campaign resuming, the news team had a chance to talk to CC Lava about the Acklay airborne detatchment of the 501st. Whether it's their distinctive uniforms or their equally distinctive combat role, Acklay is a force to be reckoned with and serves their Republic well. CT Daku conducted an interview and he had the honor of writing the following story:

In our ever escalating conflict against the Separatist menace, one must recognize the value of striking a foe at their flanks or from where they least expect it. So in war, the way is to avoid what is strong, and strike at what is weak.

It is with this idea in mind, the Acklay Detachment paints its canvas across the fields of battle like the most exhilarated of artists, leaping from the battle hardened LAATs of our Razor pilots to the sodden ground of the enemy’s back-lines. This reporter caught up with the Acklay HQ Commander CC Lava to discuss further the ins and outs of these airborne warriors.

When asked what the Acklay detachment is, the LAAT Jumper responded:

“Acklay is an Airborne Detachment. We perform such duties as Infiltration behind enemy lines via High altitude Drops. General tasks usually are to raid, assassinate or disrupt enemy flow. Other duties include; Pathfinding, this is to find and secure LZ's for the main unit to start their assaults. Finally, QRF (Quick reaction force) to assist the main force when and where needed. Acklay practices these duties weekly to ensure we’re ready and efficient when called upon.”  - CC Lava

20190320182627 1

Inquiring more to this lieutenant regarding what this detachment and those within it mean to him as he continues his work from within, CC Lava replies further to this reporter:

“I have been in the detachment for 600 days now. I have watched it grow and change vastly in that time. To this day it is still ever changing. Simply put, to me it’s home. An area in which I can devote my time to the big picture, the 501st. I'm very proud to say I'm a part of the detachment and hope to nurture it further.” - CC Lava

Since the birth of this Reporter in the labs of Kamino, It’s worth noting that the Acklay detachment itself has grown into a platoon element, itself full of personality and talent from across the 501st legion and directed into fashioning a skilled asset for command to use to pick apart an enemy at their legs.

But to what plans are in the future for a fighting force such as these?:

“My plans for Acklay is minor currently. Acklay is updating our old SOPs to assist the 501st better. My near future plans would be a potential uniform update, it would be nice to have a new lick of paint. As I stated before Acklay is ever changing, given time who knows what the future may entail.” - CC Lava

As for you, fellow troopers of the 501st, you can apply yourself to achieve such a role of responsibility and high altitude by following this helpful advice that the reporter quizzed out of our Acklay Commander. When asked what would be said to those looking to join their detachment, CC Lava had this to say:

“To those interested I would say practice. I was new to this two years ago and thanks to the members both past and present I have learnt vast amounts and continue to do so. To me a good mindset is primarily the most important. Having an interest to learn, the initiative to do so and the patience to perfect yourself. You will fail, time and time again, but it is your job alone to persevere. Don’t ever be afraid of trying.” - CC Lava

But of course, this reporter left the final question of utmost importance to last. Something we’ve all been waiting for! Whilst this reporter has tried tirelessly to create an item worthy of infantry flight and to no success; I finally get to ask directly towards the holder of such technology.

Can I has a Jet Pack?!:

“I’m afraid I only have jump packs in my arsenal. That's my polite declination.” - CC Lava

Drat! Maybe next time...

Maybe next time, indeed, Daku. While he figures out how to fly, I'd like to thank you all for continuing to read the 501st Newsletter. It is the dedicated work of our journalists like Daku that helps bring this news and stories like it to the public attention and the entire 501st Legion. We look forward to writing new articles and more great stories. Coming soon is the update for the ongoing Galactic Campaign and where the 501st will be deployed next. That and more in the 501st Newsletter...

Wardens? Wardens!

CT Sideways, Chief News Editor
Friday, April 12th, 2019

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Hello Clones! We have been busy down here at the 501st News team trying to get you the latest news on the Legion. After some restructuring and movements to the schedule, we’re back in action! This week we had CT Daku take an in-depth look into the life of a Warden, this is what he found:

Inter-Galactic War! It can be a tiresome & expensive occupation. It’s filled with the expected supply & management difficulties that make our adventures as clones for the Grand Army of the Republic more difficult [and yet so exciting] as we venture forth to whack every clanker we come across.

Thankfully, you have Blaster Mags for such a task, as well as a plethora of assets to your disposal against the Separatist menace. But what happens when you run dry on those mags or supplies? What happens when the management of war can be too much for the already hard working command officers to handle as they morph every clone into a droid killing machine? Thankfully the Wardens of our grand unit have your back!

Interviewing Master Warden CX-W Flog, he kindly informs the News Team of the roles the Warden team undertake with their hard efforts and management skills:

“We are the support for the support. Performing duties such as Re-arm, Repair, and Refuel or as I've started calling it, R3. We also perform the role of Air Traffic Control to maintain clear and proficient airspace above the FOB or outside of the Venator/Acclamator.” - CX-W Flog

This reporter also notes that these Wardens aren’t without teeth of their own, often seen in the ball-turrets of Republic LAATs as gun crews, ready to blast the droid army back into scrap at a moments notice. When asked about the overall effect the section has on the unit and its war effort, the Master Warden explains:

“For myself and my colleagues, we bring a new level of play for Support roles. We operate to support 2 detachments now so each Warden is being looked at now as having much higher standards to perform our jobs to the highest degree of professionalism. I haven't seen anything like this role in any milsim or starsim in Arma. I feel that this position is unique to the 501st and is necessary given how large we(501st) have become.” - CX-W Flog

The Warden’s creation & implementation into the StarSim scene has generated a wave of positive results for the Battalion as whole, with its members putting their time and effort into creating an efficient and more immersive experience which also offers unique ways for our Story-Writers & Campaign Management Teams to add extra layers to the overall adventures ahead. Adding further comment, you can assist in their efforts in future operations:

“When other sections listen to where we tell them to be and those members listen to our requests, everything flows much more smoothly. Of course we try to be as polite as possible when giving flight deck orders. Staying on whisper to talk with your squadmates allows us to hear our radios better.” - CX-W Flog

20190401202400 1

When diving in through the window of the traffic control tower for final comment on the future of himself and his colleagues, the Master Warden informs this reporter:

“My plans for Warden is to expand so that we can have more Wardens online doing each job that we can do. I hope to see a Warden on Tower(ATC radio), on R3 and infantry duties, at least 2 in the field with Mynock, one on Recon drone, and the rest in ball turrets. We've already hit three goals in the new year, new ranks, new uniforms, and representation in Leadership meetings. Give us time and I'm sure we’ll find something new and appealing for Warden to add to our repertoire.” - CX-W Flog

And as this reporter falls to his doom, I’d like to conclude this report with a thanks to the entire Warden staff for their commitment to making sure you have the assets you need where you need them, good work team! This is CT Daku signing out!

Now… If only I had a parachute…

With that ends another week of news from the 501st. With the Avalanche and other elements practicing hard for the next wave of campaign operations, so is the news team in bringing quality content to the members of the 501st Legion. During the course of the next few months we’ll be taking an in-depth look into more of the history and function of each part of the unit. Stick around for that and more!

-Mynock command prepares for combat!

Mynock has begun it’s testing period and are beginning to get it’s documentation in order. Stay on the lookout for any changes to Fun Op rules in relation to Mynock and any Zeus rules in relation to Mynock. If you have any questions regarding Mynock please direct them to Major Jay, Captain Klein, or Sergeant Major Jan. We here at the news team hope to see Mynock in action as their help will be greatly needed in the campaign to come...

The 501st News Team had the chance to speak with the illustrious Sergeant Major Sorensic who has been with the unit for a long time and his story is almost as long as the unit itself. Sorensic joined June 2nd, 2017, just two weeks after the 501st had been formed. He was drawn to the unit by invitation of an old friend of his, who was from a Mount and Blade community he frequented. He had never been in an Arma 3 unit before, due to a slow computer but it was fairly simple to join at this time. When he first joined the unit he was fairly intimidated by those around him, many came from military backgrounds. Sorensic knew that he was stepping out of his own comfortable corner of the internet and despite this he knew that he wanted to lead. He soon went on to squad lead in his own initial training. During his first four months as an NCO, he mentions that if he had the chance, he would have banned himself for his own performance. Splitting his time in half between M&B:WB and the 501s, Major Jay saw the leadership aspect in him and by his fourth FTX, he was a Sergeant. Back then people were coming and going at such a fast rate, squad leaders were more concerned with keeping themselves together and providing structure together and maintaining order. Sorensic was a Sergeant for a month and then he was Bondoer’s Sergeant-Major.

20190324233934 1

Sorensic had learned a lot under Bondoer and mentions that this was the time that many of the experiences he has had during this time have influenced how he leads and how he interacts with people in the unit. His first operation under Bondoer, Sorensic was pretty much his compass on the field, and had Bondoer help him out, who told him what he did wrong and what he did right. As time went on he had to straighten himself out had to take a step back and evaluate what he learned and what to value. Two reasons he for sticking around, he stuck around because of the group of guys and he appreciated the easy going spirit, even if going on the field meant focusing to get the job done. Sorensic saw all of that and more in the group of people that the unit composed of.
Around this time however Sorensic’s Youtube channel: Sorensic Steel, also kicked off. Over the course of a month, his videos went from hundreds of views to over 1.6 million, and with that began the July Massacre, where hundreds of people joined the unit in a very short amount of time. With the demands of life, the unit, and Youtube pouring down on him, he took a step back a chose to stay as a Sergeant-Major, to prevent from collapsing under the pressure of life. Streaming and Youtube has greatly affected his time within the 501st. Sorensic has not forgotten that the unit helped him get where he is today. He does everything he can to help the unit out because of this reason.
Sorensic has been with the 501st for a long time now and hopes that he continues to serve under the blue banner. His greatest hopes are encompassed in people’s creativity and hopes to see more creative and enjoyable experiences in this unit, lest it descend into stagnation. His story will continue to evolve in parallel to the 501st and his influence will continue to inspire many to create their own stories.

In other news, CX-S Jackson and CI-O Roadboy have hosted a Rainbow Six: Siege tournament featuring teams created in the 501st. We had a chance to speak with them on the internal workings and the thought process behind such an exciting event.

“The process for this has been fairly straight forward, I've got a check-in from team captains of who's attending, possibly having Sorensic cast it for people to see, and we have the teams all lined up ready to go with an addition of people who may want to come in and don't have a team. I used a website (https://challonge.com/501stR6STournament) to help guide the process in and set up the bracket while making it look good. People can use this to make predictions of the game and they can also watch live of how it's going.” - CI-O Roadboy.

The response has been amazing so far, many teams have registered on the discord, with around a total of 90 players who have joined up in response to Jackson setting it up. Possible plans for the future could come under seasonal matches, or regular events on a basis such as monthly/every 6 weeks. It would be ultimately up to Jackson for that however he listens to the people's wishes within the Discord.

Akamaihd

With that, another week concludes in for the 501st newsletter. We will report back on any news from the campaign, internal unit progress and and updates from the 501st.

Victory in the Sujimas sector!

CT Sideways, Chief News Editor
Wednesday, March 20th, 2019

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Victory has been scored by the Republic! The Sujimas sector has been secured in the Galactic Campaign. In this issue of the 501st Newsletter, we take a look into the region of Sujimas and the planet of Pantora that the 501st has been fighting for. Once again the 501st News Team works hard to bring you the latest information from the front!

This week was a hard fought week for the company. Several Avalanche platoons were redeployed to defend against Separatist counter-attacks. Victory was achieved when Avalanche performed several ground assaults and denied land control to the CIS, with the help of Razor and the newly formed Mynock detachment. Mynock was utilized for the first time during this weekend’s campaign operations as another layer of support to ensure a 501st victory, with their training in mortar support and our troops had the honor of BC Jay fighting at our side. Our troops held the line very well and ensured a hard fought victory. With this victory the 501st has finished the  Pantoran Galactic Campaign objectives when “The Hand”, a Separatist T-Series Tactical Droid pulled out and fled from the system. Remaining operations to be conducted on the planet will remove any routing CIS stragglers from the system as their leadership has withdrawn.

20190314151246 1

-Elements from Razor and Acklay celebrating the recent victory over the CIS on Pantora.

In the past few weeks the 501st Legion has been deployed to the planet of Pantora, which has been the current phase of a very important struggle to remove the the Confederacy’s presence in the system. Located within the Sujimas sector, Pantora is a very humid, but habitable planet, filled with marshes and swamps with variable amounts of farmland and urban centers. Pantora is home to the Pantorans, a human-like alien species, which are known for their blue skin, that makes them often get confused with the Chiss. The Pantorans are a democratic society and are led by the Pantoran Assembly, they are also members of the Galactic Senate. The current representative for the Pantorans is Senator Riyo Chuchi. The Pantorans are a fairly new members in the galactic power scene, only coming into power a few decades ago.

The Kazaraki were once the galactic power in the Sujimas sector, and even had a large presence in the Galactic Senate. This all changed when a comet struck their planet, Kazarak. Afterwards in the resulting power vacuum the Pantorans came to power. The Pantorans have been seen to be using this new found power to spread their influence, which has moved the Kazarki and set them down the path to join the Confederacy. That is the situation where we find ourselves today, our struggle in the Sujimas sector is important, no longer is it just about it’s strategic value but our actions on the battlefield will be felt by billions of Pantorans across the galaxy and the many other inhabitants of the sector.

With our victory, we have effectively won the sector, while it was not a clean victory, it was hard fought and unfortunately, the 501st Legion did not capture The Hand, or remove the foul presence of the Kazaraki. With this loss, the CIS will surely regroup their forces and threaten other places in the galaxy, just like the Sujimas sector.

20190314144227 1

Tune in next week for more information regarding the campaign and any updates from the 501st Legion.

Once again, the news team comes to you to with the latest and greatest news in the 501st. This week an interesting turn in the Galactic Campaign, a major announcement and many placement changes are included in this week’s issue of the 501st newsletter.

During the last week in the Galactic Campaign, Avalanche company aggressively pushed and destroyed a droid vanguard threatening the rearguard and many elite infantry forces, but not without their own loses as well. The CIS had attempted a counterattack which was a tactical failure for them and both sides are in position to strike a crippling blow at each others command elements. The northern region of Pantora had third platoon pushing towards the Confederacy’s rear to allow first platoon to get out of “Black Rock” while also eliminating a large number of enemy forces. First platoon then pushed out of Blackrock dealing severe blows to droid vanguard forces. Meanwhile in the southern region of Pantora, fourth platoon was pushing around the southern flank of the CIS but ended up trading large blows with them. This action allowed second platoon to push through the middle and put the 501st in a position to strike at the CIS T-Series “The Hand” and deal a decisive blow to the CIS and end the fighting on Pantora. Elsewhere, the Acklay detachment had to take a defensive stance rather than their standard assault in taking their objective but have eliminated all enemy forces near their position while Onyx acted as a quick response force for all of the Avalanche platoon operations.

A major announcement has come forth from battalion! Mynock has been introduced to the 501st Legion as the first dedicated ground support detachment. Major Jay and other command staff noticed that a support element would be very beneficial to the battalion and has  been in the making for a very long time.

“It will be nice know that someone will be on the other end of artillery calls making sure they are putting rounds down range accurately,” said Major Jay about the changes.

This ground support will come in the form of long range fire support (AV-7’s and mortars) and vehicle support so that the detachment is not stuck with the same task during every operation. The size of the detachment will also be small so that it does not hamper server performance for the other elements. In fun-ops the detachment will work very similar to how Razor operates in that their equipment and vehicles are not to be used by those outside of Mynock unless approved by them beforehand. This will include many of the vehicles that we are using now but also the HAWv-A2 "Bantha" Fighting Vehicle from the 212th Attack Battalion Auxiliary mod, which will be included in the 501st modpack on Monday the 18th. As for now the Bantha is the only piece of equipment that will be utilized from that mod due to balancing issues. Other equipment is being tested for use by the 501st and battalion will be excited to test out the new AT-TE’s and UT-AT’s as they become available.

Applications for Mynock have opened up and will conclude on March 20th. There are currently RTO, Medic, Trooper, and NCOIC positions available and you can apply using the links Major Jay posted in the important information tab on the 501st discord. These positions will require additional training listed in the Mynock ORBAT after being accepted. You will not need to message anyone about your application to Mynock as you will be notified if you have been denied or accepted and anyone with questions should refer to the memorandum posted by Major Jay.

With the news of Mynock and the preparations for the continuation of the Battle for Pantora, that concludes this week’s report from the front. We hope to hear more from Battalion on any changes coming up in the future and telling you the history of the unit. Thank you for reading this issue and we hope to see you next week!

Another week has passed in the 501st and as always, the news team is dedicated to bringing you the most up-to-date information from the 501st Legion. This week will continue the latest progress from the Galactic Campaign and includes a look back at the unit's history from the perspective of the one and only, Battalion Commander Jay. Stay tuned for more.

This week in the Galactic Campaign, the Republic organized their own counter-attack against the CIS invasion of Pantora. Third platoon rallied at the crash site of their captured Munificent-class star frigate that they had previously boarded on Negev. Meanwhile, first platoon had attacked an abandoned Pantoran Defence Force fortress being used by the CIS, where they destroyed the droids and secured it. Fourth platoon performed a looping defense during the night to secure the southern flank preventing armor from coming to reinforce CIS forces in the area. Second platoon did a patrol to limit vanguard actions from the Confederacy and secured a communication relay. First company as a whole pushed the CIS away from the Pantoran capital, rescued civilians from bombing runs and moved them to the capital. Avalanche reports that the platoons performed exceptionally well. Acklay was deployed via lifepods to the south of Yaygin, a small town with even smaller significance, along with Onyx Beskar. Together they pushed through scouting forces to secure a point of interest called Lynchpin, which had been a larger pivot point and fortified position for CIS movement on Pantora which could later be used as a large Republic forward air resupply point and a potential fallback location for our troops.

This week we had the honor of speaking with our own battalion commander on the foundation and formation of the 501st. As of today, the 501st is one of the largest communities within Arma 3 accounting to around 10% of the active player base, but we wanted to take a look deeper and understand the history of such a large unit. The unit was founded on paper, on May 19th 2017 and was the first of the “starsim” units, which are communities with light military simulation elements set in the universe of Star Wars. In the beginning it was Jay and a few of his close friends, including CC Cruisie and several other individuals who enjoyed playing Arma 3 and its mods. Their group had grown extremely fast due to publicity and new updates to the Star Wars Opposition Mod, but it was not until midway through 2018 with an event known as the “July Massacre” where literally hundreds of people joined looking to participate in such a large experience with like minded people. The retention of most however, was not very long as there was a very large and glaring issue of memory leak, which caused the server to crash every hour and a half and most modules to break even before then. Despite these issues the unit kept moving forward and still managed to hold their own platoon-wide operations.

Initially the only field training exercises the 501st had started off with was their own campaign style mission some may know as: FTX #03. Centered around taking back a Venator from CIS forces, it wasn’t easy. They got the job done and even exceeded their expectations by claiming the vessel as their own. Next the 501st went to Tatooine where they discovered their new best friend: the entrenching tool. Before then the tool was not used as it was today but due to the large open areas troops and squads began to put the tool to good use. This is also when the Magnaguard was first used in the 501st. While initially used as Spec-Ops droids, they are now used as “mini bosses” in operations until it’s later designation as a bodyguard to important CIS individuals. Throughout this time the unit had to grapple with several main issues, some of which the unit still struggles with today. Being the first of its kind, the 501st had to come up with very basic ideas, like how it was going to operate. Many different ideas were thrown around and no one wanted to replicate the rise and fall of their community like the old type of "milsims" that have come and gone before their eyes. The Star Wars setting allowed them to do something different compared to everyone else and the ability to avoid copying a real life military. This allowed the 501st to feature large air assaults with sometimes overwhelming odds stacked against the heroic clones. Although operations in the beginning had to be fast due to the memory leak problem still present in the mod. Major Jay reminisces about a time he and a squad of seven men cleared out 28 droids in less than a minute while bleeding just to get the operation done in time. Another issue that plagued the unit in the beginning was that of Aviation’s role in the unit. Not only their role, but how they could fit into the unit. Originally, Razor was mostly there to deploy troops and run reinserts, which had fed into a negative overall outlook at Razor. There were many times where they were disrespected and made fun of by general infantry. However Razor never lashed back and they stayed professional, courteous, and always did whatever was assigned to them to the best of their ability. While some of it’s past still lingers over to Razor to this day, they have been able to get over it and do not let it reflect on what it means to be in Razor today. With the many changes of leadership, doctrine and rules, Razor is now a shining beacon in the 501st. The 501st would not be where it is without its aviation detachment due to their professionalism and courage in the field.

Necessary changes to a growing unit and a place where people can become friends and all enjoy the shared love of Star Wars. When Major Jay was asked on what the heart of the unit was he had this to say: “I ask myself the same question, and my best guess the camaraderie between the people and the squads.”

We look forward to posting more information regarding the formation of all the elements of the 501st and letting you have all the information on the long history of one of the largest communities in Arma. Until then, we hope you have a good night and steady progress to all our friends in the 501st.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Welcome to the 6th weekly newsletter of the 501st Legion. This week the unit continues it’s campaign against the CIS with the aftermath of Negev. Additionally, more information from Hailstorm Battalion has been announced regarding the new leadership courses that will be coming soon. All this and more in this issue of the 501st newsletter.

The Republic has made extreme progress in the galactic campaign and liberated the planet of Negev in the Sujimmas sector. Now the 501st has moved to the Pantora system. Unfortunately for the 501st, they had crash landed somewhere on the planet with estimated losses at a quarter of the strength of the company. Enemy fire caused their captured Munificent-class star frigate to crash on the planet surface. CS Coward was spotted in the bridge during this incident and no further information could be obtained. Pantora is a Republic allied planet with many marshlands, with a booming industry and valuable war material, it’s no wonder the CIS has made its plans to try and take the planet under its own name. The 501st has set up large defensive networks around the capital city in an attempt to halt the CIS invasion and force them out of the system. The native Pantorans have given their pledge to the Republic to destroy the invading CIS forces from conquering the planet and all the neighboring systems. Reports from Avalanche command indicate all infantry platoons are doing excellent, morale is up and the latest field training exercises that were held proved to be of great utility for the battle to come.

Basic combat training has released photos of its 100th course (previously announced in issue #5), along with the new BCT map that will be used for all future trainings.

The 501st is continuing to grow and evolve which requires training to evolve with it. The unit has revamped old leadership courses so that they may better suit its needs that comes with changes in procedure. CC Klein and CS Verax are in charge of implementing these new training qualifications and stated that these training are the work of all elements coming together to create a cohesive unit-wide training program. These trainings will be conducted with the highest standards so that they produce quality leaders and inspire both NCO’s and non-NCO’s to commit themselves to improve the 501st as a whole and its members individually. It took one month to make these courses and required the work of many individuals who are listed next to the course designation.

Verax’s reasoning with these courses are “to mold people who can consistently deliver on these qualities.”

Along with Captain Scuba as the Commanding Officer and Lieutenant Jr. Grade Nocturnal as Executive Officer. The 151st, now disbanded, is where  Scuba and Nocturnal spent roughly 12 hours each day for months honing in on their aviation skills, learning and inventing new concepts for themselves to become well rounded pilots in the cockpit of any airframe they sit in. Captain Scuba and Lieutenant Jr. Grade Nocturnal also taught a pilot named Canik via phase trainings here in the 501st, who is now the head of aviation for a large modern milsim known as the 21st Ranger Company.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Welcome back clones! Another week has passed in the 501st Legion and much has transpired in that time. As you may have noticed the news team has decided to move the weekly publish date to Wednesdays, mainly due to information gathering and the weekly command meetings in Hailstorm Battalion. This week we have much to tell you, from the progress of the campaign to a look into the spectacle of basic combat training, with the infamous final test and updates regarding a very special ongoing alternative campaign set in World War II. As always promotions and news will be posted from each of the elements within the 501st.

Progress in the Galactic Campaign! The 501st legion has liberated the planet Negev, with it’s latest movements the battalion has secured the entire planet. All of the Confederate and Khazaraki resistance has either been thoroughly crushed or routed. In this turn of events after the initial push onto the planet, the 501st Legion were successful in boarding and capturing a Confederacy Munificent-class star frigate, and were also responsible for courageously capturing a planetary shield generator on the surface of Negev. Official reports from the front state that there were no CIS inflicted casualties on clone forces, although there were some startling reports of CIS war crimes against the natives of the planet. Additional information from Avalanche company states that platoons are operating at peak efficiency. As more updates roll in regarding Hailstorm’s progress in the Sumanji system, the news team will be there to give the Republic’s most accurate and important information from the front.

20190216153515 1

Aside from the news of the front this coming Thursday, February 21st, 2019 will mark the 100th basic combat training (BCT) hosted by the battalion. On January 23rd, 2018, Hailstorm Battalion began marking the basic training classes after the January mod update that had breathed some very new air into the unit and furthermore, said basic trainings have made an extremely successful impact in the unit since their inception and continue to guide new recruits into battle. Battalion Commander Jay was the one to kickstart the original basic training program long before the January mod update, during the unit's first year. Later being passed onto the 258th training battalion, a joint operation between the two current GARC units, the 501st Legion and 212th Attack Battalion and the former GARC unit, the 104th Battalion. Unfortunately for the 258th, it failed to keep up with the quality and the sheer volume of new recruits, so discussions were made to move away from it and eventually it was replaced with new ownership and redirected internally within the 501st, where it was soon taken over by CS-M Sorensic, who still attends most, if not every BCT class until it was eventually passed on to other members within the unit.

20190216160043 1

Basic combat training is among one of the most important topics in the 501st, mainly being the primary hope of the 501st Legion’s future and legacy and is meant to excite recruits for what's to come in their career in the unit and also gives older members a look back towards their own. It prepares the recruits for the intensity, confusion, and strategic planning of the battlefield all across the galaxy.

“[In its current state] BCT is not expected to change its system whatsoever.” says CS Odin, who currently manages the policies and management of all the basic training staff. Odin states that only until The Clone Wars mod official and fully releases, which will bring many new features, equipment and experiences to the unit, that there will be no more major changes to the basic combat training program as it performs its function in the unit very well. The objective of the basic combat training is to get the clone recruits (CR’s) familiarized with the operations, equipment and types of contacts that they will be facing on the field. Through knowledge and information, they are kept up to speed with how things work once the final test concludes with final goal of bringing the recruits up to standard for being in the unit. As of yesterday, February 20th, the BCT class #99 was the official release of a new training map set on the rainy homeworld of the clones, Kamino. The map was released in honor of clone janitor “99”” who was featured on the Clone Wars series, and holds a special place in all of our brother’s hearts.

Aside from training troops what will be found on the field, one of the BCT’s trainers, CX Scuba, helps keep the recruits mentally disciplined by teaching them the very important skills of being able to not only follow instructions, but obey commands which assist in setting the tone and reminding each trooper that they need to cooperate and have a certain quality that won’t undermine their comrades in the heat of battle. CX Scuba sets an example for not only the Razor Squadron, but the many other members of 501st Legion with different backgrounds that all provide excellent role models for the future generations of clones that will continue to pass the basic combat trainings. To maintain the course, dozens of instructors, cadres, and Zeuses all come together and sacrifice their time to continue the legacy of the 501st.

Meanwhile, in a far different world, another call was announced, for another battle that was taking place. “Charge Comrades, For the Motherland!” could be heard as a squad of Russian soldiers charged headfirst into the power station, facing machine guns, rifle fire, and even a German Panzer IV. The news team had recently talked to CW-O Lindsey, who has hosted the most recent iteration of her World War II campaign, one of many that she hosts. This mission had members of the 501st playing as an unnamed company of Russian ground forces attempting to fight the German army in the deep cold of the Russian winter.
About a year and a half ago in the 501st, Chief Warrant Officer Lindsey began to help out with mission development for CS-M Sorensic’s extremely famous and constantly evolving Tatooine checkpoint RP missions, which soon became a staple of the 501st and a reason that many old and new members have joined the legion for. At some point in time soon after, many 501st members would often play on public World War II liberation servers and similar operations. This would convince a certain CM-S Shade to decide to run a 501st World War II operation, thus sparking interest for several more World War II, Vietnam and other miscellaneous (even Stargate!) operations to be held officially by the 501st. This is where CW-O Lindsey decided to try her experienced hand at her own vision of creating a World War II operation within the 501st. After dozens of hours of hard work and planning dumped into creating such a mission, the moment of truth finally arrived. As people began to load in, technical issues began to appear, leading Lindsey to scrap the first op, but she didn’t let this deter her, and vowed to try again for a second time but unfortunately wasn’t until the third time that the operation finally was performed without much error that many people showed genuine joy in participating in a large scale alternative operation and humbly asked for more, which Lindsey was not expecting. Lindsey got down to work and began creating several more World War II ops, and eventually expanded into Vietnam and the Cold War eras. In hindsight she mentions one of her favorite missions, a look into Operation Goodwood, a British offensive operation set during the Battle of Normandy. For this mission she went above and beyond in trying to make it as immersive and enjoyable, to deliver the best possible experience for players.
For Lindsey, it’s the enjoyment of the dedication of putting hours upon hours of work into something and then seeing the same enjoyment from the people who never knew that experiences could be even imagined. Experiences that make bonds of comrades and friends of people who otherwise would not have been. These are the experiences that many people continue to attempt to craft for everyone in the 501st and Lindsey is only one of many people who continue to shape the wonder future and memories of the unit.

“Remember Comrades, No retreat. Not One Step Back!” ordered CC Machete during the briefing. His personal NKVD officers were there to enforce this brutal policy. Each NKVD officer was given a PPSH, and explicit orders to shoot any man who retreats. With a great charge, all of the infantry and tanks of the Russian troops had already captured an enemy airfield and pilots flew in LA-3s and IL-2s to begin engaging the hostile German forces. Other members were allowed to operate T-34-85s, and a heavy KV-2 tank, left to rot during some great previous siege. The battle raged until Russian forces captured a large port, the main city of Chernogorsk, and finally, a mountainside artillery position. Casualties were high, but that was to be expected from such a brutal war, but in the end, the victorious and courageous Soviet troops showed their superiority over the Germans, but not without heavy losses.

With another week ending, so does our report on the internal events of the 501st. We hope that many new information has come to light to many people and we especially hope that such progress and strides continue to inspire the many members of the 501st to give back to the unit and give the best possible experience for everyone involved. Progress with the campaign is still ongoing, as always and will be, as always, reported officially in the weekly newsletter. More information of events and profiles of people in the unit, like BCT and Lindsey’s campaign are constantly featured and we ask you to come tell us something you would like to be shared with the 501st. This unit continues to grow with the hard work and dedication of many members from an indefinite amount of backgrounds who all want to experience the joy of creating and tearing apart droids together.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Greetings, clones! This is our fourth issue of the 501st newsletter! In this issue we begin to tackle the progress that the Legion has done in the Sujimmas sector and on the planet Negev. The initial push onto the planet has been successful and we will be examining the progress of each platoon as well an in depth look at the planet of Negev. Keep reading for the news of the unit!

This weekend the 501st Legion have made the first strike towards liberating the planet Negev from Separatist forces, who have made it clear they’re looking for a fight. Beginning with the Avalanche platoons, who managed to take out several armored assault tank (AAT) factories and secured a large Separatist prison. This prison held valuable Separatist personnel and sympathisers, politicians loyal to the Republic that will be involved in the full liberation of Negev.  Unfortunately some of the politicians perished during the fighting, but on the bright side the 501st has managed to save one extremely valuable asset, the Minister of Justice of Negev, who could have the ability to sway much of the public opinion to the side of the Republic. Several Military advisors for the Separatists also lost their lives during the operations with the regional outskirts and large portions of the major land mass currently under Republic control. For now, the 501st continues their push deeper into enemy territory.

20190209161336 1

As the 501st Legion’s Hailstorm Battalion is being deployed in the Sujimmas sector, in close proximity to important systems such as Naboo, we have decided to take a look closer at the planet Negev, a planet that has been shrouded in mystery. Negev is a dry planet made up of mostly scrubland and hills with small oceans. The planet’s crust contains many natural metals, which along with the flat land and soft soil, makes it perfect for large surface and subterranean factories.

Local fauna and indigenous species include the Negevi, who are the original inhabitants. The planet’s government is an oligarchy made up of the top magnates, tycoons and industry owners, undoubtedly aligned with the Commerce Guild and the many other faceless subsidiaries of the Confederacy. The technocrats in power set legislature and rule over the planet with an iron fist. The planet is also inhabited by the Kazaraki, a minority group who came after their planet (Kazarak) was hit by a comet. The two groups are deep allies and the Negevi have provided the Kazarki with financial aid in the past and the present.

The Negevi is currently openly trading and negotiating with the Confederacy, using their enormous factories to produce large vehicles and equipment for use in this conflict and across the galaxy. The Negevi trade with the Confederacy due to their allegiance to the Kazaraki and the great trade deals they get out of their service, which helps feed their economy and the tight grip they keep over the entire system.

This week has proven the 501st is ready for any conflict and they proudly march into battle against those who stand against the Republic. Soon the planet will surely be under Republic control and the Negevi and the Sujimmas sector will reign free from tyranny of the Seperatists. Check back next week for more information and news from Hailstorm Battalion!

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The week begins with another newsletter from the 501st Legion. Contents include the start of the Galactic Campaign with Hailstorm’s Third Platoon and an interesting look into a public training with the ARC detachment. Additionally, a feature story of an alternative campaign hosted by Lieutenant Machete. Clue in for more information about what’s going on within the unit, starting with the long awaited persistent campaign.

This week in the Galactic Campaign, the opening moves have been played and Third platoon, A Company has secured a MSR [Main Supply Route] crossing west to east of a settlement called Midgard. Clone Tactical Enforcers covered the roads crossing to east where the other elements will begin their attack. Mention of light resistance, that wasn’t prepared composed primarily of scattered droid infantry and light armor. A possible factory that could be the source of deadly B2 battle droids equipped with personal energy shields was located, but not engaged due to lack of intel. Third platoon’s acting sergeant major, Sergeant Coward indicated that the structures could be a strongpoint in the next set of tactical movements that Hailstorm Battalion decides to take, although the enemy was very willing to give up the east with minimal resistance. One native Negevi was located and taken for processing.

Due to some issues regarding Steam, the next movements from the battalion have been delayed until next week and Third platoon will be participating in a field training exercise while the rest of the battalion continues the initial advance.

Unrelated to the campaign, on this last Friday, the 501st Legion’s advanced recon commando detachment, Onyx, offered a public training on the topic of close quarters combat (CQC) tactics and high value target/very important person (HVT/VIP) procedures for all members of the 501st. The training was about three hours long and was focused on practical training of procedures regarding protecting a single target along with a player vs. player portion, or referred to as “Combat Survivability” by the ARC members present, was meant to further test the present close combat skills of the trainees and help them understand how to obtain new skills to be used all across the battlefield.

Sergeant George stated that “The purpose of this training was to make Onyx seem more open and approachable, to show people that they can come to us with questions. This training was the beginning of many and I hope to do many more in the future.”

In other news, Lieutenant Machete has been running several campaigns on his own dedicated server, including a large bi-weekly World War I campaign, titled All American, that will be running again this upcoming weekend. This campaign has a persistent story and follows the 82nd Infantry Division through the European Theater of the First World War. It is different than most other campaigns in that it allows anyone to hold any position without their normal qualifications in the 501st. Anyone could be a pilot or a tank driver for the campaign without having the qualifications for the standard fun-operations. Another notable feature is that after a couple player deaths, rank and progress for that individual soldier is reset to ensure a realistic approach to operations and a sense of self-preservation. The Lieutenant would like to remind players that neglecting 501st duties will cause removal from the campaign. Check with Lieutenant Machete about joining his discord to participate in this campaign and others like it.

20190203230745 1

We here at the news team look forward to the continuation of the Galactic Campaign and we’ll be back next week to inform you what has transpired. We would like to thank Onyx and CC Machete for allowing us to feature them in this week’s article and let the reader know that they’re open for any questions you may have about them. See you next time from the 501st!
